More than 2,000 operations performed by medics in the new building of Orsha Hospital No. 1 named after Semashko

Over 2,000 procedures have been performed by Orsha doctors since the launch of the new building of the healthcare institution "Orsha Central Polyclinic" of City Hospital No. 1 named after Semashko. These include complex surgeries on blood vessels, joints, and the heart. This is now possible thanks to new equipment and trained personnel.

The new building features a modern operating unit on the 10th floor with two operating rooms equipped with laminar air flow. Thanks to a multi-stage filtration system, the incoming fresh air and outgoing stale air streams do not intersect. This means the chances of complications after surgery for patients are minimal.

Each operating room is equipped with two consoles – for anesthesiology and laparoscopic equipment. Modern equipment for tissue dissection and hemostasis is used in the operating rooms.

Orsha medics also perform complex procedures for crushing kidney and bladder stones, which local residents previously had to travel to Vitebsk for. The facility also has a 3D visualization system, allowing surgeons, wearing special glasses, to assess the situation in detail and in three dimensions, rather than just on a flat monitor.

The central sterilization department uses plasma low-temperature sterilizers, which halve the sterilization time.

Doctor Igor Petrov: We are working in completely new conditions, which we could only dream of six months ago

– We are working in completely new conditions, which we could only dream of six months ago, – says urologist Igor Petrov of the urology department. – The department itself is half a century old. With the increase in bed capacity from 40 to 60 beds, our capabilities have expanded: now all types of surgical interventions known in urology are performed here, except for oncological ones. That is the prerogative of specialized cancer centers.

Laparoscopic urological and gynecological systems allow for minimally invasive surgeries. Equipment for transurethral resection of the prostate gland is also available, without opening the bladder.

Dmitry Gasyul, Head of the Operating Unit, cannot praise enough the computer-controlled electrosurgical unit, which provides a metered energy supply depending on the properties of the coagulated tissue (tissue impedance). Metered bipolar electrocoagulation allows for hemostasis and reliable closure of vessels up to 7 mm in diameter. The technology of the new apparatus is largely similar to bipolar: high-frequency alternating current is used, and the generator features smart technology.

Patients with acute myocardial infarctions and strokes, peripheral artery disease, and other vascular emergencies can now receive prompt, qualified assistance. A computer angiograph makes all of this possible.

The hemodialysis department is mastering the method of peritoneal dialysis.

“A person is not tied to the dialysis unit, but only monitored there and performs the necessary procedures independently,” explained Georgy Snytko, Head of the Hemodialysis Department. “Previously, this approach was hardly practiced in Orsha due to a lack of space. Today, about 50 patients from the city and nearby districts, including Dubrovno and Senno, seek help here. We perform hemodialysis in 4 shifts, 6 days a week.”

Now, Semashko City Hospital No. 1 offers virtually all existing methods for diagnosing heart diseases.

Moreover, the cardiology department monitors and, if necessary, adjusts the operation of pacemakers. If patients with pacemakers encounter any problems, a specialized office equipped with the latest equipment will assess the device readings and make changes to their program. Previously, this required traveling to Vitebsk.

The staff of highly qualified and mid-level medical professionals in the new building of Semashko Hospital is also fully staffed. Now, with such capabilities, the main task is to provide quality treatment to people.
