More than 20 years of imprisonment threaten a Polotsk resident for robbery and murder in Russia

November 4, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A severe punishment threatens a Polotsk resident for robbery and murder in Russia, investigator for particularly important cases of the investigative department of the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office Andrei Grigoryev told a BELTA correspondent. For eight years, a native of Polotsk hid under false documents in Russia after committing a traffic accident in his hometown. All this time, he quietly worked at one of the car service stations. The Belarusian decided to return to a life of crime after an unpleasant incident at work: for a damaged car, a dissatisfied client demanded $5,000 from the unfortunate mechanics. The man and his 25-year-old partner did not have such money. Then they decided to commit a robbery. In April 2009, for the purpose of robbery, the attackers made a homemade firearm and by deception stopped a Peugeot truck at the highway. However, the driver turned out to be an acquaintance of the Belarusian, as he had previously repaired his car. Frightened, the Polotsk resident shot him. After the robbery, the accomplices hid the body in a drainage pipe on a country road, left the car in a forest clearing, and a few days later decided to flee to Belarus, as Russian law enforcement officers were rapidly investigating the crime. However, soon the young Russian decided to surrender. He brought a confession written by his accomplice to the police. Currently, the resident of Russia has already been sentenced to six years of imprisonment. The Belarusian was found after some time, but he refused to testify. Now, the criminal case against the Polotsk resident has been sent for consideration to the Vitebsk Regional Court. For robbery committed by a group of persons, murder, vehicle theft, and illegal arms manufacturing, he faces more than 20 years of imprisonment. -0-
