Military Unit 5524 of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus celebrates the 25th anniversary of its formation. What tasks are set for the servicemen of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and how are they performed by representatives of the 7th Separate Special Militia Brigade, its commander Aleksey Kulik told "Vitebskiye Vesti".

The unit traces its history back to November 1, 1993, when by order of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the 2nd Separate Special Militia Battalion was formed in Vitebsk on the basis of the 17th convoy company of military unit 6713. In 2013, the 7th Separate Special Militia Brigade was formed on its basis, which guards law and order throughout the region.

— Our activity consists in assisting law enforcement agencies in maintaining public order and ensuring public safety. We convoy and guard convicts and persons held in custody, disarm and destroy unexploded ordnance from the Great Patriotic War in populated areas, check reports of explosive device installations and disarm them if found.

We also guard correctional institutions and carry out supervision of convicts together with their administrations. Today, the brigade includes four separate rifle battalions, military units 5524 and 5530, and units of direct subordination.

The personnel of the brigade confidently and with dignity continue the glorious military traditions of their predecessors, develop by improving the material and technical base and perfecting work methods.

— I wish everyone health, family happiness, and success in their service. We need to be patient and tirelessly improve our professional skills to be ready at any moment to fulfill the tasks set for us by the President and the state.

I want to express special words of gratitude to Colonels Ivan Ivanovich Shlykov, Anatoly Adamovich Kurilets, Vasily Valerievich Sakovets, Andrey Alexandrovich Rybinsky, and Viktor Vladimirovich Sobolevsky, who led the unit before me, and to other veterans of the unit. Their professionalism and diligence, even in difficult conditions, allowed them to nurture a worthy replacement for active officers and ensigns and successfully fulfill their military duty.
