More than 400 drug-related crimes were registered in the Vitebsk region from January to November

December 27, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Over 400 drug trafficking related crimes have been registered in the Vitebsk region in January-November, which is a 1% increase compared to the same period last year. This was announced to journalists today by Yuri Ambros, Senior Assistant Prosecutor of the Vitebsk Region for supervision of operational-search activities, BELTA correspondent reports. "The activities of law enforcement agencies have become a serious obstacle to the spread of narcotic drugs and precursors, although drug use is increasing year by year," noted Yuri Ambros. He emphasized that they are most widespread among young people, including schoolchildren, vocational school students, university students, college students, and unemployed young people. The increased instances of detecting large batches of drugs and psychotropic substances also testify to the relevance of this problem. For example, in March, a resident of Bobruisk was detained in the Vitebsk district, transporting 1 kg of methadone and 501 g of marijuana in his car. In August, as part of the "Mak" special operation, 1.3 kg of marijuana was found in the apartment of a Vitebsk resident. More than 27 kg of heroin was seized from two residents of Mogilev near the village of Redki in the Dubrovno district. The increased quantity and availability of narcotic drugs require new measures to counter their illegal trafficking. To this end, a coordinating meeting of the heads of all law enforcement agencies and structures will be held in Vitebsk today to develop unified criteria for approaching the consideration of applications related to the distribution of narcotic drugs and the investigation of criminal cases in this category. -0-
