More than 400 residents of the Vitebsk region were brought to justice in 2010 for plying teenagers with alcohol
January 27, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. More than 400 residents of the Vitebsk region were brought to justice in 2010 for plying minors with alcohol. This was announced today at a press conference by the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Naidenko, in response to a question from a BELTA correspondent.
According to the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate, those brought to administrative responsibility include both persons who bought alcohol for teenagers and those who drank alcoholic beverages with them. In total, over the past year, about 43.8 thousand residents of the region, including 1.1 thousand minors, came to the attention of police officers for drinking alcohol in public places. The same number of people (1.1 thousand) were sent to medical and labor dispensaries.
The problem of population alcoholism remains quite acute. For the police, it is a painful issue primarily because every third or fourth crime is committed while intoxicated. "Therefore, in 2011, we intend to pay the closest attention to preventive work with persons who abuse alcohol. This particularly applies to residents of rural areas," stated Alexander Naidenko. -0-
