More than 4.1 thousand citizens have shown interest in working as observers in election commissions at all levels in the Vitebsk region
According to official data, documents for registration as presidential candidates have been submitted to the Central Election Commission by Viktor Babaryko, Andrey Dmitriev, Anna Kanopatskaya, Alexander Lukashenko, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Valery Tsepkalo, and Sergey Cherepen.
Meanwhile, organizational preparations for the elections are continuing at the local level. Executive committees, in agreement with territorial election commissions, have designated places for holding mass events by presidential candidates and their proxies, as well as meetings with voters, on a notification basis. For example, in Vitebsk, about 20 institutions and outdoor venues will become centers for campaigning: assembly and reading halls of educational and cultural institutions in various parts of the regional center, as well as park areas in three districts of the city.
After the formation of precinct commissions, over 4,000 observers were accredited in just two weeks, meaning this process proceeded at a rate of 334 observers per day. As of July 6, an average of five or more representatives from public associations, labor collectives, and citizens are already working in this capacity at each polling station. In total, more than 4.1 thousand citizens have shown interest in working as observers in commissions at all levels in the Vitebsk region. The majority of them (almost 90%) are delegated by public organizations, including trade unions affiliated with the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (1397, or 33.7%), the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (729, or 17.6%), the public association "Belaya Rus" (578, or 13.9%), the veterans' association (402, or 9.7%), the women's union (297, or 7.2%), and the Belarusian Peace Foundation (182, or 4.4%).
We remind you that the presidential elections in Belarus will be held on August 9, with early voting taking place from August 4 to August 8. The Central Election Commission must announce the results no later than August 19. If necessary, the second round of voting is scheduled to take place no later than two weeks later, i.e., on August 23.
