More than 4.2 thousand children from Belarus and Russia received health treatment at the DRC 'Pearl' under the Union project

Over 4.2 thousand children from Belarus and Russia have undergone health improvement within the framework of the Union State project at the "Zhemchuzhina" Children's Rehabilitation and Health Improvement Center (Lepel district, Vitebsk region) during the period of 2004-2022. This was announced today to journalists by Lyudmila Kanonovich, Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Labor and Social Issues of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, during her visit to the health resort, where the "Day of the Union State in Zhemchuzhina" festival is taking place today, as reported by sb.by correspondent.

According to her, the project, which involves health improvement measures for children from the most affected areas of Russia and Belarus by the Chernobyl disaster consequences and is funded by the Union State Standing Committee, is gaining momentum every year. Its funding increases annually. This year, the funding amounted to 55 million Russian rubles. Over a thousand children will undergo health improvement within the project in Belarusian and Russian health resorts by the end of the year, with "Zhemchuzhina" receiving 410 of them. In 2023, a budget of approximately 58 million Russian rubles is planned.

According to Vera Zakrevskaya, Director of the "Zhemchuzhina" Children's Rehabilitation and Health Improvement Center, the requirements for the material, technical, medical, and educational base of the sanatoriums implementing the project are always very high. The Lepel health resort has managed to meet them for over 17 years:

– Participation in the Union State program is a true pride and honor for our team, a great incentive for improving the activities of the center for providing preventive and health-improving care to children living in radioactively contaminated territories. Special attention is always paid to organizing the stays of children from Belarus and Russia who come under the project, to holding events on the themes of the Union State, and special cultural and educational campaigns highlighting the historical and spiritual community of the peoples of Belarus and Russia.
