More than 46,000 children have been rehabilitated over 9 years at the Lepel center "Zhemchuzhina" under Chernobyl programs

More than 46,000 children have undergone sanatorium-resort treatment and health improvement at the "Zhemchuzhina" Children's Rehabilitation and Health Improvement Center (Lepel District) under Chernobyl programs since the center's establishment in 2002, the medical and health institution informed a BELTA correspondent. Annually, the center treats over 6,000 children aged 6 to 17 with various pathologies. The center has all the necessary conditions for the accommodation and rehabilitation of children. Along with climatotherapy, physiotherapy is used to improve the functions of organs and systems most vulnerable to radionuclides. For functional prevention and pre-nosological rehabilitation, an innovative program of physical fitness and health improvement classes on health tracks with dosed physical activity in different modes for middle school children is being implemented at "Zhemchuzhina". In the future, the center plans to build a well for mineral water extraction and a pump room, a balneotechnic facility for drinking treatment with this water. One of the main areas of work with children is strengthening health and instilling healthy lifestyle skills. The center has a sports base for training and holding sports and mass events, including a sports hall, gyms equipped with necessary equipment, a stadium with a football field, a tennis court, volleyball and basketball courts, a playground, and a swimming pool. A beach has been built for summer recreation, and routes for hiking tours have been developed. In 2011, "Zhemchuzhina" plans to commission a cultural center, which will include an auditorium, a library complex, computer classes, music and art studios, as well as other facilities of various functional purposes, which will significantly diversify children's leisure and improve the quality of health improvement. Based on the results of the state certification of sanatorium-resort and health improvement institutions, the "Zhemchuzhina" Children's Rehabilitation and Health Improvement Center has been assigned the first category. -0-
