More than 50 schools in the Vitebsk region need fencing
More than 50 schools in the Vitebsk region need fencing, the head of the education department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Ivan Shchurok, told a BELTA correspondent.
According to him, in connection with the tragic incident of a student's death in Minsk, a monitoring of all 535 schools in the region was carried out in the Vitebsk region. "We checked the presence of fences, turnstiles, barriers and other protective devices on school grounds, speed bumps on the approaches to them, and also looked at other issues related to ensuring road safety. According to the results of the inspection, it was found that 53 schools need fencing, including ten in Vitebsk, four in Novopolotsk, one in Polotsk, three in Orsha. The rest are located in rural areas," Ivan Shchurok said. The amount of funds required for these purposes has not yet been calculated, but this issue will be resolved, he added.
In order to ensure road safety and increase the level of awareness of children and adolescents, the regional education department has established close cooperation with the traffic police department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Children receive their first knowledge on this topic in the senior groups of preschool institutions, and it is studied more broadly and fully at school in the course "Fundamentals of Safe Living". "Teachers pay increased attention to the rules of behavior on the road, fire safety, and water safety in conversations with both students and their parents. The problem is that parents, who are the main role models for children, do not always follow the established rules themselves," concluded Ivan Shchurok.
