More than 5.3 thousand veterans of the Vitebsk region receive patronage assistance from BRSM activists

September 17, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. More than 5.3 thousand veterans of the Vitebsk region receive patronage assistance from BRSM activists, the acting first secretary of the Vitebsk regional committee of BRSM, Lyudmila Kapranova, told a BELTA correspondent. According to her, the young people constantly help the elderly with fuel procurement, assist with household chores at home and in the garden, harvest crops, and also respond to any other requests that they are able to fulfill. In addition, a hotline has been set up at the regional committee, by calling which war veterans and lonely elderly people can always seek help. This year alone, 202 veterans have called it. "Moreover, they needed help not only with household chores. Many simply invited young people to chat," the source noted. To organize more effective work, "Mercy" detachments have been created in educational institutions of the region, for which the campaigns "A Veteran Lives Nearby," "Care," "Sensitive Heart," and "Bureau of Good Services" have become traditional. Volunteer detachments are operating. And in the Orsha district, primary BRSM organizations are assigned to the Yurtsevo military hospital. Extensive work is being carried out on the patriotic education of youth. For example, this year the regional "Watch of Memory," numerous "Star Marches" to the places of military glory and the "Bagration" operation, and the military-sports game "Zarnitsa" were held. In June-July, the joint Belarusian-Russian campaign "Relay of Memory" took place, with 150 participants traveling along the route Vitebsk-Orsha-Minsk-Vitebsk. As of July 1, more than 7 thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War lived in the Vitebsk region. -0-
