More than 6,000 balconies and loggias in the Vitebsk region require repair

More than 6 thousand balconies and loggias in the Vitebsk region need repair, the housing and communal services department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. An unscheduled inspection was carried out by order of the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services and showed that 5.2 thousand balconies and 1.1 thousand loggias in apartment buildings throughout the region are damaged. At the same time, 3.1 thousand external structures require repair in the regional center alone. This year, 2.8 thousand balconies and loggias will be repaired, about 1 thousand of them in the regional center. At this pace, it will take about three years to put them in order in all district centers and cities of the region. The repair of one balcony costs an average of Br20 million and is carried out from contributions for major repairs. As noted by specialists, housing management companies are responsible for the technical condition of balconies. Twice a year, they conduct a mandatory visual inspection from the street. The basis for making a repair decision is the destruction of the plaster layer and the exposure of reinforcement. In case the base slab is displaced or the railing is damaged, this is a reason to declare the balcony unsafe and restrict access to it to avoid accidents. -0-
