Over 7 million trees planted during "Forest Week" in the Vitebsk region

April 30, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. More than 7 million trees have been planted during the "Forest Week" campaign in the Vitebsk region, the deputy general director for ideological work of the Vitebsk Regional Production Forestry Association (PLHO) Maria Usova told a BELTA correspondent. In total, from April 21 to 28, forest cultures were planted in the region over an area of more than 1 thousand hectares, and forest replenishment was carried out over an area of 300 hectares. Plots in roadside areas and around settlements were brought into proper sanitary condition on an area of 310 hectares. In addition to forestry workers, about 6.5 thousand volunteers took part in the campaign - schoolchildren, students, employees of several enterprises and organizations, activists of the BRSM (Belarusian Republican Youth Union) and representatives of local authorities. During the campaign, alleys were planted in honor of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Belarusian classics Yakub Kolas and Yanka Kupala. One of them appeared in the Kopysky forestry of the Orsha forestries, near which the Yanka Kupala Literary Museum is located. In this house (the former forestry office), in the summer of 1935, Yanka Kupala lived for some time with the forester Shimansky's family while the famous writer's dacha was being built. The second alley was planted in the Tolochin forestry of the Tolochin forestries, on the territory of which the village of Sani is located, associated with the name of Yakub Kolas: in his youth, he taught here in a private school. -0-
