More than half of the monthly rainfall quota fell over the weekend in Vitebsk

More than half of the monthly precipitation rate fell during the New Year holidays in Vitebsk, the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring informed a BELTA correspondent. On January 1 alone, the regional center received a ten-day norm of snow. In total, over the past three days, the snow cover depth increased by 15 cm to 56 cm, breaking all previous early January records. In Polotsk, the snow depth reached 57 cm. In general, in the north of the region, it reached 52-57 cm, and in the south - 33-50 cm. In the coming days, short-term snowfalls will again occur in the region. The air temperature on January 4-5 at night will be minus 7-12 degrees Celsius, with clear spells - down to minus 18, and during the day - minus 6-11 degrees Celsius. A weakening of frosts is expected by the Christmas holidays. Heavy snowfalls, brought to the Vitebsk region by a North Atlantic cyclone, have forced all relevant services to make maximum efforts to clear cities of snow. According to the Housing and Communal Services Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, on January 1, about 150 units of equipment from housing and communal services enterprises were involved in snow removal in the region, on January 2 - about 400, and even more are planned for January 3. In addition, more than 200 units of attracted equipment are operating. In Vitebsk, over the past weekend, the "Gordormost" enterprise removed more than 9.5 thousand cubic meters of snow. About 350 workers are involved in clearing streets. The 103rd Guards Separate Mobile Brigade also provided assistance to the city, sending 100 personnel to combat the consequences of the elements. -0-
