More than one hundred students of Vitebsk State University became prize-winners of the republican competition of scientific works in 2009
January 14, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Over 150 research papers were completed by students of Vitebsk State University named after P. Masherov (VSU) in 2009, with more than a hundred authors of the developments becoming laureates and prize-winners of the Republican Competition of Research Papers by Students of Higher Education Institutions of Belarus. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Alexander Dedinkin, Chairman of the Student Scientific Society Council of the university, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Belarus at VSU.
According to him, this result was the most significant in the almost 100-year history of the university. Based on the results of 2009, Vitebsk State University became the best among the universities of the region and entered the top five strongest higher education institutions in the country that participated in the competition. University students distinguished themselves with victories at olympiads. Students of the Faculty of Mathematics won 3rd place at the International Informatics Olympiad, and students of the Faculty of Pedagogy became the best at the Republican Olympiad in Correctional Pedagogy and Social Psychology.
In addition, university students have been actively participating in the open competition of research papers by students of higher education institutions of Russia and the CIS countries since 2005. During this time, the works of more than 20 Vitebsk residents have been awarded medals and diplomas by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.
The scientific research and developments of students cover not only fundamental topics but also have a practical focus. For example, a former 5th-year student, and now a lecturer at the university's Department of Chemistry, Alexey Belokhvostov, developed electronic learning tools to ensure continuous chemical education in the "school-university" system, which are already being implemented in practice today. His work was the best at the Republican Competition of Research Papers in 2009. Student of the Faculty of Biology Denis Gabelyev, in co-authorship with Viktor Izmaylovich from Polotsk State University, developed technical means for protecting water bodies from oil pollution. The young scientists plan to patent a number of inventions within the framework of the research.
To coordinate the activities of student scientific clubs at the university, the Student Scientific Society Council was established in 2009, which is designed to enhance the popularization of scientific activities among university students. For the first time in 2010, VSU plans to hold a Student Science Week, which will conclude with a large-scale scientific and practical conference "Education of the XXI Century". The event is intended to become traditional, and the annual republican student forum "Masherov Readings" is planned to be organized with international status this year. -0-
