More than a thousand volunteers in the Vitebsk region will take part in the global cleanup of the planet
September 10, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Over a thousand volunteers in the Vitebsk region have already expressed their desire to participate in the global campaign "World Cleanup 2012: Let's Do It Together," Tatiana Yasiulina, chief specialist of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, told a BELTA correspondent.
The campaign in Belarus is organized by the Center for Environmental Solutions with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus. The campaign finale will take place on September 15, and the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection has invited all residents of the region who wish to participate.
It is expected that the main efforts of volunteers will be directed towards cleaning up territories from unauthorized dumps, primarily forest areas. For example, in the Vitebsk district and Vitebsk alone, about a hundred volunteers will participate in the world cleanup. The call to tidy up our common home – the planet – has been actively responded to in Ushachi, Senno, Tolochin, Braslav, Sharkovshchina, and Lepel districts. Volunteers include employees of district environmental protection organizations, public environmental inspectors, and members of public organizations.
According to the regional committee for natural resources and environmental protection, the problem of unauthorized dumps remains relevant for the region: over 700 have been identified since the beginning of 2012. Inspectors have drawn up 490 administrative protocols against entities responsible for the formation of dumps. Moreover, the majority of protocols – 429 – were drawn up against individuals.
The "World Cleanup-2012" was launched at the beginning of January this year at a conference in Tallinn. Cleanups are planned to take place worldwide, covering all continents and uniting millions of volunteers in 100 countries. Teams for tidying up the planet have already been formed in Austria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Holland, India, and Russia. -0-
