Most districts of the Vitebsk region have started the second mowing of grasses

July 7, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotov - BELTA/. Farms in most districts of the Vitebsk region have started the second mowing of grasses for fodder, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

As of July 7, the second mowing of grasses has been carried out on an area of 6.5 thousand hectares, which is 5% of the target. In addition, farms in several districts are simultaneously completing the first mowing of grasses, which needs to be carried out on an additional area of 25 thousand hectares. About 612.5 thousand tons of fodder units have been harvested, or approximately 88% of the target for the first mowing, which is 6 thousand tons of fodder units more than the figure for the same date in 2010. The region's farms have already fulfilled the plan for hay, of which over 102 thousand tons have been harvested, as well as over 90% of the plan for silage (over 1.9 million tons have been harvested in total). Silage has been harvested in the amount of about 48 thousand tons.

The provision of fodder per conventional head of cattle in the region on average is almost 13.2 centners of fodder units. Farms in the Dubrovensky and Gorodoksky districts are leading in fodder harvesting, where the provision of fodder per conventional head of cattle is already over 15 centners of fodder units, and in the Lioznensky and Polotsky districts, this figure exceeds 14 centners of fodder units per conventional head. In the current season, the region's farms are to harvest fodder in the amount of over 1.2 million tons of fodder units; per conventional head of the public herd, it is necessary to achieve a provision of fodder at a level of at least 25 centners of fodder units.

In addition, farms in five districts of the region have begun harvesting seeds of early-ripening cereal grasses, which have been mowed on an area of 73 hectares, or 4% of the plan. Work has also begun on preparing the soil for sowing winter crops.-0-
