Almost 82% of vaccinated residents in the Vitebsk region have received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

Almost 82% of adults in the Vitebsk region who completed a full course of vaccination more than six months ago have received a booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine, said Vladimir Sinkevich, chief physician of the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Public Health.

The majority of residents in the northern region have been vaccinated against coronavirus with two doses – 72.8% of the population has received the vaccine. "Work in this direction continues uninterrupted in all districts of the region. The majority of employees of organizations and departments, medical and social service institutions, and others have been vaccinated. Vaccination of the population aged 61 and older continues. Special attention is currently paid to booster vaccination against COVID-19 for people who completed a full course of vaccination more than six months ago, in order to maintain immunity. A booster dose has been administered to 81.9% of such individuals," noted Vladimir Sinkevich. He added that coronavirus vaccination is carried out with the drugs "Gam-COVID-Vac," "Sputnik Light," "Sinopharm," and "Soberana Plus."

In the Vitebsk region, over 25,000 children aged 5 to 17 have also been vaccinated against COVID-19, which is 18.1%. The chief physician of the regional center for hygiene, epidemiology, and public health emphasized that the disease in children and young people often proceeds in a milder form. However, they remain carriers and can infect other people. Speaking about the importance of immunization, Vladimir Sinkevich recalled that even after recovering from the disease, antibodies may not be produced in the body or may be formed in insufficient quantities, while vaccination allows for the production or increase of antibody levels.

An active phase of influenza immunization was carried out in the Vitebsk region until December 1, as autumn is the optimal period for vaccination. 40.1% of the region's population was vaccinated.
