March 10, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The former head of the procurement department of RUPP "Vityaz" received a bribe of $28,000 from a Chinese company. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Vasily Pashkovsky, senior prosecutor of the anti-corruption and organized crime department of the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office, today at a roundtable meeting on the issue of combating corruption. The employee of the enterprise received a large sum between November 2005 and March 2006 for assisting the company's foreign partners in overstating the cost of the contract for the supply of components. The investigation into all criminal episodes of the former head's activities is currently ongoing. As noted by Sergey Kolontaev, head of the 9th department (for the Vitebsk region) of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, this is the largest bribe amount in the Vitebsk region in recent years. Usually, material rewards for bribe-takers do not exceed $2,000, added Gennady Dysko, prosecutor of the Vitebsk region. -0-
