The Ministry of Emergency Situations Ski Race Championship starts on January 25 in Vitebsk
January 23, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. More than 100 rescuers will take part in the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations cross-country skiing championship, which is planned to be held in Vitebsk from January 25 to 28. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the press service of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The competitions, which are being organized in the regional center for the 6th time, will bring together 11 teams representing all regional departments, republican units and educational institutions of the ministry. Five teams - the Vitebsk and Mogilev regional, as well as the Minsk city departments, the Institute of Retraining and Professional Development, and the Command Engineering Institute of the Ministry of Emergency Situations - will start as unofficial favorites.
Rescuers will compete in five disciplines to determine the strongest. For the second year in a row, the championship program includes a sprint elimination race (1.2 km distance). Sprint participants will be divided into several groups, and the winner of the race in each group will advance to the next stage. Thus, the best sprinter will have to prove their advantage more than once to win, demonstrating not only speed but also endurance.
In addition, skiers will compete in individual races of 10 km and 5 km, and women will compete over a distance of 2.5 km. The final event of the championship will be a 4x5 km relay race. Winners and prize-winners of the championship will traditionally be awarded prizes and valuable gifts. Based on the results of the championship, the best skiers will be included in the team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to participate in the Belarusian Physical Culture and Sports Union "Dynamo" cross-country skiing championship.
The established frosty weather has made adjustments to the championship preparations. Two heated modules of the Ministry of Emergency Situations mobile medical hospital will be deployed right at the start for the participants of the competition. In addition, issues of providing athletes with hot meals have been worked out. If the frosts do not weaken during the competition days, it is possible that the race distances will be shortened, the press service of the department noted. Only twenty-degree frosts can force the organizers to postpone the starts to other, more favorable weather conditions. -0-
