According to the results of the first quarter, 869 such incidents were registered, which is 12.8% less than the corresponding level of last year, reported to a BELTA correspondent Irina Tavtyn, Senior Assistant Prosecutor of the Vitebsk Region for Legal Support, Information and Public Relations. More than half of the crimes committed while intoxicated were committed in the Shumilino (57.6%) and Miory (52.5%) districts. A significant increase in crimes committed while intoxicated (from 30 to 44) occurred in the Lepel district (the share was 45.8%); in Senno - from 11 to 23 (38.3% respectively), in Novopolotsk - from 47 to 67 (36.4%). Thanks to measures to combat the spread of alcoholism among the population, it was possible not only to reduce the number of crimes committed while intoxicated but also to reduce deaths from alcohol poisoning. According to the results of January-February, alcohol caused the death of 80 people, which is a dozen less compared to the same period last year. At the same time, such a resource as bringing to administrative responsibility for drinking alcoholic beverages in public places or appearing in a state of intoxication is not fully utilized, believes Irina Tavtyn. For example, in the Orsha district, where every third crime is committed while intoxicated, there has been an increase in deaths from alcohol poisoning, and only 58 people have been brought to justice for these reasons. In Beshenkovichi, Verkhnedvinsk, Vitebsk and other districts of the region, 3 times more people have been brought to justice for such violations. -0-
