The net profit of organizations in the Vitebsk region, according to preliminary estimates, will amount to Br7.3 trillion for 2012, with a profitability of sales reaching 9.5%, the economics committee of the Vitebsk regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

This year, a positive trend in qualitative development indicators is noted. For January-October, enterprises in the region received Br6.1 trillion in net profit, which is almost 4 times more than in the corresponding period last year, including Br4.6 trillion from industrial enterprises, which is more than 7 times the previous year's figures. Revenue from sales of products increased 1.9 times during this period and amounted to Br103.4 trillion for the region, including Br69.9 trillion in industry. The growth of revenue over cost of goods sold was ensured by 0.7 percentage points. Throughout the year, a stable trend of increasing sales profitability was maintained. For the entire national economy complex of the region, it increased from 7.5% to 8.5% in January-October, including 8.1% to 9.2% in industry, 9.4% to 11.9% in agriculture, and 3.7% to 5.3% in construction.

Compared to January 2012, the number of unprofitable organizations decreased by 11.1%. However, in industry, 13.9% of enterprises are unprofitable, in construction - 14.4%, in agriculture - 1.7%, and in the service sector - 4.1%. The amount of losses exceeded Br500 billion, which is 1.3 times more than the corresponding level in 2011, with 72% of this amount attributed to industrial organizations.

An analysis of the situation conducted by the economics committee showed that the increase in unprofitability was primarily due to insufficient work on cost reduction. The growth rate of the cost of goods sold outpaces the growth rate of revenue from product sales in some organizations by 13 percentage points.

For the first three quarters of 2012, the production cost per unit of output for organizations of communal property decreased by 0.3% compared to the same period last year, against a target of 0.5%. Material intensity of production decreased by 2.1% during this period, and energy intensity decreased by 12.7%, including a 3.4% decrease in industry and 14.6%. The material intensity level increased at 47.7% of the enterprises surveyed. An increase in energy intensity was observed at 45.3% of the enterprises.

In 2013, the region will continue to work towards ensuring a sales profitability of not less than 10% in industry and agriculture, revenue from sales of products (goods, works, services) per employee of at least $40 thousand, a decrease in material intensity in industry by 5%, a decrease in costs in organizations of communal property by at least 0.5%, and the elimination of unprofitable business entities.
