A ten-day snow norm fell in Vitebsk over the past 24 hours
December 29, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A ten-day norm of snow fell in Vitebsk over the past day, BELTA correspondent was informed at the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.
In total, on December 28, the snow cover in the regional center increased by 15 cm to 36 cm, which became a new record for the day in the last 73 years: the last maximum snow height of 31 cm was observed in Vitebsk in 1937. In general, in less than a month, almost two ten-day norms of precipitation have fallen in Vitebsk, and one and a half in the region, fully justifying the Belarusian name for December "snezhаn".
According to meteorologists, the last days of the outgoing year will also be accompanied by snowfall against the backdrop of intensifying frosts. In the next 24 hours, the night temperature in the region will be minus 6-11 degrees, and during the day - minus 4-9 degrees. On December 30 and 31, the thermometer may drop to minus 10-15 degrees at night, and to minus 18 degrees in clear spells. The daytime temperature will be minus 6-11 degrees.
Heavy snowfall has added trouble to road services and janitors. Thus, the equipment and employees of UP "Gordormost" are working in an enhanced mode, with their working day extended from 8 to 11 hours. City cleaning is carried out around the clock in a three-shift system. About 10 thousand tons of snow are removed daily. -0-
