A delegation led by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, is visiting the Volgograd region
The participants of the meeting noted that the Vitebsk and Volgograd regions have many points of contact that allow for building strong relationships. First and foremost, this is a common history, a military feat performed on the Stalingrad land shoulder to shoulder by representatives of fraternal peoples.
Volgograd Governor Andrey Bocharov noted that today more than eight thousand Belarusians live in the region, 27 enterprises with Belarusian capital operate here, and the republic is among the top three leading foreign economic partners in terms of mutual trade volume.
The Governor of the Vitebsk region expressed his readiness to further develop this cooperation. "We would like to complement each other's economies on a historical foundation. Not to compete, not to interfere, but to find points of contact so that our friendly relations are strengthened even more," noted Nikolai Sherstnev.
A delegation from the Vitebsk region visited the construction industry enterprise "VOLMA". An agreement was signed between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two regions. As noted in the Committee for Economic Policy and Development of the Volgograd Region, this will contribute to the development of foreign economic relations: the parties intend to provide each other with assistance in implementing mutually beneficial projects, organizing business meetings, and conducting
exhibitions, fairs, and assisting in market research.
The document provides for the promotion and protection of entrepreneurs' interests, and the development of mutually beneficial trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Volgograd and Belarusian partners.
The head of the Belarusian delegation, Nikolai Sherstnev, noted that the Vitebsk region is interested in strengthening business ties with the Volgograd region and implementing joint business projects.
The priority areas of cooperation between the regions include: the supply of equipment for petrochemical enterprises, the supply of fuel and energy resources, as well as interaction in the field of tourism and agriculture. In addition, the regions are interested in creating joint knitwear, garment, and footwear production. It should be noted that as of the end of 2016, Belarus ranks 3rd out of 121 countries – foreign trade partners of the Volgograd region in terms of foreign and mutual trade volume.
