The murder case of a young taxi driver in Vitebsk will be transferred to the prosecutor's office within a month
The criminal case on the murder of a young taxi driver in Vitebsk will be sent to the prosecutor's office within a month. This was announced today at a press conference by Vladimir Shalukhin, head of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region, according to a BELTA correspondent.
The investigation of the case is nearing its logical conclusion. Investigators have obtained irrefutable evidence of the guilt of a Vitebsk resident born in 1971 in the murder of a young taxi driver. According to Vladimir Shalukhin, the accused partially admits his guilt, denying a mercenary motive and claiming that personal animosity and a conflict that occurred the day before took place. However, the investigation conducted allows us to conclude that the crime was motivated by mercenary reasons, as money, a navigator, and a mobile phone were stolen from the victim's car. All of this has been found and attached to the criminal case materials as physical evidence.
As reported earlier, on the evening of September 12, 2012, a 20-year-old employee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, who worked as a taxi driver in his free time, was murdered in Vitebsk. The body with a gunshot wound was discovered on the morning of September 13 in the car. A criminal case was initiated on this fact under paragraph 12 of part 2 of Article 139 "Murder for mercenary motives" of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
On the sixth day after the body was discovered, during operational-investigative actions, a person suspected of this brutal crime was identified. It turned out to be a Vitebsk resident, previously convicted of car theft (conviction expunged. - BELTA note). The crime caused a great public outcry. Citizens provided immense assistance in the search for the murder suspect, and Vitebsk taxi drivers showed corporate solidarity, actively participating in the search for the young man.
