The previously dismantled sculptural composition "Taras on Parnassus" is returning to Horadok
Natalia Gamzyuk, Head of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the district executive committee, informed "Vitebskiye Vesti" that the sculptural composition "Taras on Parnassus" will return to the district center in the coming days. It was bought for Horadok by Yuri Braginets, president of the Russian concern "Detskoselsky," which has an agricultural production enterprise in the district.
At one time, the monument, dedicated to the famous Belarusian satirical poem written in the 19th century by Konstantin Verenitsyn, a native of Horadok, was installed in the city park for the regional festival of agricultural workers "Dazhynki." It immediately became one of the attractions, and local residents and visitors to the district center gladly took pictures with the cheerful forester, as if he had stepped out of a book. However, the sculpture stood for only two months, was dismantled, and taken to Minsk.
As representatives of LLC "Liteyny Dvor" – the company that manufactured the monument – explained at the time, they were not paid for the work, and the authors, Vitebsk sculptors Ivan Kazak and Sergey Sotnikov, did not receive their fees. For their part, local authorities spoke about the inflated price of the composition, but expressed hope that a compromise would be found, and the literary hero, who has become a kind of brand of Horodok, would return to his homeland.
Fortunately, this issue has now been resolved thanks to a sponsor. Soon, "Taras on Parnassus" will return to the district center – the sculptural composition will be installed in its former place. And the current festival of folk art, Belarusian poetry and folklore "Horodotsky Parnas", dedicated to the native poet, which has been held since 1998, will be celebrated together with the hero of the poem that glorified these lands.
