In 2017, Polotsk will host the Day of Belarusian Written Language
In 2017, Polotsk will host the Day of Belarusian Written Language, Vice Premier Natalya Kochanova informed journalists today before the meeting of the Interdepartmental Expert and Coordination Council for Tourism under the Council of Ministers.
"This year, Rogachev will host the large-scale celebration. At the last meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation of the holiday, it was decided that Polotsk will become the next capital of the Day of Written Language, despite the fact that the holiday has already been held here more than once. It is symbolic that in 2017, the year of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing will be celebrated, and Francysk Skaryna was born in Polotsk," Natalya Kochanova said.
According to the Vice Premier, Polotsk should become a tourist mecca - there is everything necessary for this. At the same time, Natalya Kochanova noted that not all objects of interest to tourists are fully utilized. "Everything needed for the development of tourism is available in Polotsk. This is a very important city from a historical point of view, there are attractions here that can attract a larger number of tourists," she believes. The Day of Belarusian Written Language is a national holiday celebrated annually on the first Sunday of September. It was first held in 1994 in Polotsk. Historical and cultural centers associated with the lives of famous figures of the country become the capitals of the Day of Written Language.
