Victory Day was celebrated in Vitebsk

День Победы отпраздновали в Витебске
The feat of veterans is a vivid example of true patriotism for the younger generation. This was stated today at a festive rally dedicated to Victory Day by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev.

During the Great Patriotic War, over 120,000 residents of the Vitebsk region fought on various fronts, and over 100,000 served in 60 partisan brigades and units, self-defense and militia groups, and in the party-Komsomol underground. "The memory of the people who brought closer the victorious May at the cost of their lives, and whose hearts stopped in peacetime, will never fade. The achievements and life wisdom of the veterans are a cementing spiritual and moral support for us, an example of true patriotism for the younger generation," said Nikolai Sherstnev.

He called on everyone to cherish the memory of the departed heroes and to take care of those who are still with us. "Unfortunately, with each passing year, there are fewer and fewer living witnesses of those terrible days. There are 847 veterans of the Great Patriotic War living in the region," Nikolai Sherstnev added. He addressed them with words of immense gratitude and a deep bow for the Victory. "On this festive day, I wish all of you, your families and loved ones good health, well-being, high spirits, and kindness," the governor emphasized.

In Vitebsk, the rally traditionally took place with the participation of veterans, the leadership of the region and the city, local residents, youth, representatives of enterprises and public organizations, and guests on Victory Square near the monument in honor of Soviet soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters. The celebration continued with a large concert program. Folk festivals also unfolded on all concert venues in the city. The celebration will conclude at 23:00 with a fireworks display.
