Snow Day in Vitebsk: Slides for Children and "Chess" with Equipment for Utility Workers

День снега в Витебске: горки для детей и "шахматы" с техникой для коммунальников

While adults are busy dealing with the aftermath of two cyclones, children and other participants of an art and sports festival in Vitebsk are happy that the Snow Day in the city finally lives up to its name.

"It feels like all educational institutions of Vitebsk have come to the festival – there are so many people on Victory Square. There are families with children and students. The weather is great, and we didn't have to cancel any sports competitions or the ski relay. And the children have a new attraction: a huge three-headed dragon castle has been built from snowdrifts on the square for the snow sculpture contest. You can climb on these structures and slide down," the organizers noted. But while people are having fun here, more than 140 units of equipment have been working since morning to clear the streets of snow.

As explained by the city's housing and communal services, equipment from road services, housing and communal services, and enterprises in the city's districts, between which their zones of responsibility are distributed, has been involved. "The Ministry of Emergency Situations coordinates all the work, and it also receives calls from the public about the need to clear roads. These and other messages are accumulated, and equipment is redirected. But in general, when help is needed directly on the street somewhere, both special equipment and people themselves come to the rescue. In any case, there is no situation where someone remains unheard in the snow for a long time," the city utility workers emphasized.
