The Vitebsk region's parliamentary corps has been renewed by almost half
April 30, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. The deputy corps of local councils in the Vitebsk region has been renewed by almost half. Following the recent elections, 1,686 people (47.8% of those elected) who were not previously deputies will work in the representative bodies of the new convocation. Vladimir Myadelets, Chairman of the Regional Election Commission, informed a BELTA correspondent about this.
Among those elected, five citizens of the Russian Federation will receive deputy mandates. About 46% of the new convocation's deputy corps are women, and they dominate in rural and city (cities of district subordination) councils, where they will occupy more than half of the deputy seats. Nearly 200 young citizens, or 5.6% of the total number of deputies, will be involved in local issues in their deputy capacity. Youth are represented in councils at all levels, except for the regional one.
In the local councils of the 26th convocation, 52 representatives of political parties will work, with the overwhelming majority (46) mandates belonging to the Communist Party of Belarus. Members of the CPB will be represented in councils at all levels, except for city councils in cities of district subordination. Following the elections, the Republican Party of Labor and Justice received three seats in the representative bodies, the Belarusian Agrarian Party - two, and the Belarusian Social Democratic Party "Hramada" - one deputy mandate.
In the new convocation's deputy corps, a quarter of the elected representatives are from agricultural production, 16% from education, 12.6% from industry, trade, transport, and construction, and almost 10% of deputies work in healthcare and social protection bodies. While agricultural and education workers prevail in primary-level councils, specialists in the industrial sector and healthcare have a significant share in regional and city councils.
Following the elections in the Vitebsk region, all 240 local councils have been elected with a valid quorum, including one regional, 21 district, 7 city councils in cities of regional and district subordination, as well as 211 rural and settlement councils. Repeat elections will be held in three constituencies. One deputy mandate remains vacant in the Dubrovno District Council, as well as one each in two rural councils in the Dubrovno and Verkhnedvinsk districts. In all cases, the candidates who ran on an uncontested basis failed to receive more than 50% of the voters' votes.
A total of about 817,000 voters participated in the voting across the region, with a turnout of 90.9%. -0-
