Deputies highly praised the new health resort camp "Orion" in the Gorodok district

Депутаты дали высокую оценку новому оздоровительному лагерю «Орион» в Городокском районе
Field meetings of the Presidium of the Regional Council of Deputies can be called a school of advanced experience for the leaders of district deputy corps. Such was the visit to the village of Kabishche, Gorodok district, where a stationary health camp "Orion" was set up on the basis of the kindergarten-basic school closed last year.

Members of the Presidium of the Regional Council went there at the suggestion of its chairman Vladimir Terentyev. The use of buildings and adjacent territories released during the optimization of the education system is a very relevant topic, as such facilities exist in every district.

Participants of the meeting at the "Orion" camp.

24 students from Kabishche are transported to classes at the Palminskaya Secondary School, and the local school was able to be re-equipped and furnished for children's recreation within a year. Renovation of premises and purchase of furniture were carried out at the expense of funds saved during optimization. There are comfortable bedrooms, recreation rooms, hygiene rooms, shower rooms with water heaters, and the updated food unit and dining room, where balanced five-meal-a-day nutrition is organized.

In addition, in 2016, the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of the District Executive Committee, together with Gorodok Secondary School No. 1, won the local initiatives competition within the framework of the international project "BELMED", funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNDP, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and UNFPA in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Belarus. A grant was received for the implementation of educational technical measures.

As part of this project, a rope park worth 168 million non-denominated rubles was equipped for the health camp in Kabishche. There is also a football field, a volleyball court, and two polygons for the laser tag game, popular among young people. Children who vacationed at "Orion" this summer also went to one of the largest climbing walls in Belarus, located at Gorodok Secondary School No. 2.

Two shifts were organized – art and aesthetic profile, and sports and tourism – with a wide range of interest-based activities. Teachers from different schools in the district worked with the children. Support staff were recruited from among local residents.

The advantages of the new camp were appreciated by 209 schoolchildren from our region and their peers from Russia, including 57 children from large families, and 93 orphans and children left without parental care. All of them were very pleased with the conditions of their stay.

Here are the opinions of the members of the presidium of the regional council of deputies about what they saw in "Orion".

Nina Puchinskaya, Chairperson of the Braslav District Council of Deputies:

– We were shown, probably, the optimal solution in this case for the use of a former school institution. First of all, it is a very suitable place for recreation, a beautiful and ecologically clean pine forest. Secondly, it is easier to repurpose such a building for health improvement needs. The well-maintained territory, order, and cleanliness in the premises are also admirable. That is, everything has been done in Kabishche for the beneficial and engaging recreation of children. We will definitely adopt the experience of our colleagues from Gorodok.

Tamara Drilenok, Chairperson of the Liozno District Council of Deputies:

– Various options for using vacated buildings are practiced in Liozno region, in particular, one of the schools has also been converted into a health camp. But what we saw in Kabishche exceeded all expectations.

The Gorodok District Executive Committee, the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism, and the District Council of Deputies have done a great job! They managed to obtain a grant, proving the potential effectiveness of the future project on a competitive basis, and implemented it quickly. Not only money but also soul was invested. It turned out beautiful, comfortable, modern – impressive. Good property was not wasted, and new jobs appeared for teachers and local residents.
