Deputies of the Vitebsk Regional Council approved the program for the development of personal subsidiary farms

June 10, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Deputies of the Vitebsk Regional Council approved the program for the development of personal subsidiary farms of citizens for 2010, a BELTA correspondent reports. The main goal of the program is the development and support of personal subsidiary farms, increasing employment and incomes of citizens engaged in agricultural production, and improving the demographic structure of the population. Thus, it is planned to provide citizens with additional land plots of up to 3 hectares for personal subsidiary farming upon their applications, and to involve citizens' land plots in the crop rotation of agricultural organizations to assist in sowing and harvesting. In vegetable growing, it is planned to expand the range of agricultural crops grown by the population to 20 types, including Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, red cabbage, sweet corn, green beans, and daikon. The program also provides for a number of measures aimed at developing fruit growing as one of the priority crop production sectors of the small-scale sector. For the development of animal husbandry in the region, in accordance with the program, it is planned to annually improve hayfields and pastures, and it is expected that by the end of the year their area will be increased to 0.8 hectares per cow. During the implementation of the program, it is planned to sell 62 thousand piglets and 374 thousand heads of young poultry to citizens. The implementation of these and other measures will allow in 2010 to increase the annual productivity of cows on average in the region to 5 thousand kg, the average daily weight gain of fattened cattle - to 800 g, and pigs - to 500 g. A separate section of the program provides for a set of measures to improve the sale of surplus agricultural products. This includes both the organization of purchases through procurement agents, procurement offices, and agricultural stores, as well as the creation of wholesale markets in each district. At the same time, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, believes that "the adoption of this program is an attempt to jump on the last train." The Vitebsk region is the only one where such a program has not yet been adopted. In this regard, the governor instructed the committee for agriculture and food of the regional executive committee to create a working group to develop a program for the development of personal subsidiary farms for 2011-2015. -0-
