The village of Perebrodye was the first among the villages of the Vitebsk region to receive its own coat of arms and flag
June 9, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Settlements and villages in the Vitebsk region have begun to develop their own heraldic symbols, said Deputy Head of the Main Justice Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Sergey Rublevsky at a press conference today, BELTA correspondent reports.
In the Vitebsk region, 37 administrative-territorial and territorial units have their own coats of arms, including 26 flags. All district centers, as well as cities of district subordination, have officially approved heraldic symbols. However, the work on reviving historical and heraldic symbols in the region continues.
The settlement of Begoml and the village of Babinovichi in the Orsha district have actively started creating their own coats of arms. The village of Perebrodye in the Miory district became a pioneer in creating its own symbols among small settlements. By decree No. 227 of June 2, 2009, its coat of arms and flag were approved. The history of this settlement dates back several hundred years. In 1571, Perebrodye received Magdeburg law and its own coat of arms. The impetus for the revival of heraldic symbols was not only the enthusiasm of local activists led by the chairman of the village council, but also the development of agritourism in this settlement. Foreign tourists are interested in local history, and such important symbols as a coat of arms and a flag can become another historical attraction.
According to Sergey Rublevsky, the revival of historical heraldic symbols contributes to the development of interest in the history of one's own country and the enhancement of national self-awareness. -0-
