A ten-year-old child died in a fire in a private house in Vitebsk, the press secretary of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando, told a BELTA correspondent. The tragedy occurred on the afternoon of December 26 in a house where a family of four, including two children, lived. The report of a fire in a private building was received from neighbors. Before the arrival of the Ministry of Emergency Situations units, a locksmith from SOOO "Belvest" living nearby, Yuri Grishchenkov, pulled a six-year-old boy out of the burning house, noticing him in the window opening. The body of the second child was found only after the fire was extinguished in the burnt-out utility room, where the gas equipment and heating boiler were located. The causes and circumstances of the tragedy are being established. Presumably, the fire started directly from the utility room, where the deceased ten-year-old boy was found. As a result, the roof of the utility room was destroyed, and the roof, ceiling, and walls of the living quarters were damaged. At the time of the fire, the parents were at work. In total, six people died in fires in the Vitebsk region over the past weekend. In the vast majority of cases, the cause of fires with a tragic outcome was the violation of fire safety rules while smoking while intoxicated. -0-
