The Children's Peacemakers Festival began with a charity run of the Tram of Peace and Accord in Vitebsk
The Tram of Peace and Accord traveled along the main streets of the northern capital on the initiative of the Belarusian Peace Foundation, its regional association, and Vitebskoblauto-trans OJSC. In addition to the organizers, representatives of the city and regional authorities, trade union activists, and schoolchildren were comfortably accommodated in the tram.
The trip is charitable: each passenger could contribute to the "peace mug." This tradition has long existed among Slavs, when people collectively raise funds for a good cause.
This event is only part of the program of the republican festival of children's peacemaking "Children for Peace," which brought together about a hundred children from different regions of Belarus at the Losvido tourist and health complex. The young peacemakers of Vitebsk region in 2023 won the opportunity to host guests from June 10 to 12. Interesting quests, excursions to historical sites of Gorodok region, boat trips along the Dvina River, and campfire songs also await the festival participants.
The Tram of Peace made several extended stops. During the first stop, passengers disembarked at Victory Square to lay flowers at the Eternal Flame, and then proceeded to the "5th Regiment" memorial complex on Titov Street.
Thus, another meeting of the board of the Vitebsk Regional Branch of the Belarusian Peace Foundation took place "on wheels" – directly during the trip. The organizers expressed hope that the joint journey on the Tram of Peace reminded the guests of the event of the most important thing: it is necessary to remember one's history, cherish friendship, accord, and a peaceful sky overhead.
