Nine people rescued from fires in Vitebsk region over the past day
March 16, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Nine people were rescued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) from fires in the Vitebsk region over the past day, Marina Fando, press secretary of the regional MES department, told a BELTA correspondent.
In two cases, rescuers had to pull citizens out of smoke-filled rooms who were intoxicated at the time. Thus, in Dubrovno, two men born in 1957 and 1962, and a woman born in 1958, were rescued. The fire occurred in an apartment on the third floor of a three-story building. Due to heavy smoke and a large amount of alcohol, the rescued could not leave the apartment on their own. In addition, rescuers evacuated three people from neighboring apartments. Carelessness when smoking while intoxicated is considered the preliminary cause of the fire. The perpetrators of the incident are registered with the Department of Internal Affairs as alcohol abusers, and moreover, it is not the first time they have endangered themselves and their neighbors due to their harmful addiction to alcohol.
A similar incident occurred in Senno, where rescuers pulled out a drunken pensioner born in 1949 and two unemployed women born in 1959 and 1961 from a smoke-filled house. The cause of the fire was also carelessness when smoking while intoxicated.
In addition, two young children and their mother were rescued from a fire in Vitebsk. As reported, the fire occurred in a three-room apartment on the 10th floor of a building. Due to heavy smoke, the apartment owner born in 1982 and two boys born in 2009 and 2010 were trapped in one of the rooms, cut off from possible evacuation routes. As a result of the incident, no one was injured, and hospitalization was not required. It was established that the fire occurred due to children's pranks with fire. -0-
