The best scientists and researchers in Vitebsk received doctoral degrees and professorships
Representatives of various sciences: biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, philology, and others — the intellectual elite of Belarus — gathered at a "round table" with the President of the country, Alexander Lukashenko.
The Head of State expressed confidence that Belarusian researchers will take an active part in the implementation of a comprehensive program to improve the country's scientific sphere, designed for phased modernization. Alexander Lukashenko noted that its implementation will ensure the priority conduct of breakthrough research focused on innovative production and the development of modern information, aerospace, chemical, biological, mechanical engineering, and agricultural technologies. According to the President, the main criterion for the effectiveness of the work done will be the impact of its results on the growth of the domestic economy.
Last year, 39 people became doctors and over 500 became candidates of sciences, 49 received the academic title of professor, and the title of associate professor was awarded to 369 applicants. Over 60 percent of dissertations are works in natural, technical, and agricultural sciences, which determine the level of socio-economic development of the state.
After the presentation of certificates and diplomas, the scientists took part in an intellectual conversation with the head of state. Teachers and researchers spoke about achievements and goals in their fields of activity.
For example, Dmitry Ryklin, a professor at the Vitebsk State Technological University, raised the issue of the contribution of industry science to the socio-economic development of the country. Among the most important problems, the scientist noted the improvement of technological processes for flax processing, as well as solving issues in the field of import substitution and resource conservation.
And Professor Alexander Subbotin of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine noted the fruitfulness of cooperation with various countries under international programs.
