The director of the House of Culture in the urban settlement of Kokhanovo, Tolochinsky district, has been accruing additional salary to herself for 6 years, the information and public relations department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate informed a BELTA correspondent.
Using her official position, the 47-year-old manager stole about Br12 million from October 2003 to September 2009. The enterprising woman accrued the money under the guise of salary and other payments to unrelated individuals who actually performed no work at the House of Culture, and then withdrew it from "On Demand" accounts using powers of attorney.
A criminal case has been initiated against the former director for embezzlement through abuse of official powers, committed on a large scale, under Part 3 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, which provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions.
