The director of a sports organization in Vitebsk has been involved in rental fraud for about three years, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Department's Economic Crimes Department (UBEP) told a BELTA correspondent. Abusing his official position, the 57-year-old man decided to use the organization's vacant premises for personal gain. He leased one room to a relative without formalizing legal documents. When formalizing the lease agreement for the second room, he "friendly" understated its cost. The damage caused by his actions exceeded Br41 million. However, he did not derive any direct material benefit. A criminal case has been initiated against the man under Part 3 of Article 424 of the Criminal Code of Belarus for abuse of official powers, which resulted in particularly large damage. This article provides for imprisonment from 3 to 10 years with possible confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions. An investigation is underway. -0-
