The director of a Vitebsk construction organization overstated the volume of work performed by more than Br1 billion.

The head of a Vitebsk state construction organization inflated the volume of work performed by more than Br1 billion to conceal his inaction, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Department's Economic Crimes Unit informed a BELTA correspondent. Abusing his official position, in December 2009, the enterprise director agreed with the management of a business entity, which acted as a contractor for the construction of a facility under the State Program "Children of Belarus," to falsify the work performed by them and instructed his subordinates to draw up and sign the relevant acts. As a result, Br1.1 billion of budget funds were unreasonably transferred to the commercial firm's account, and the structure itself began the process of self-liquidation after some time. A criminal case has been initiated against the former head for abuse of official powers under Part 3 of Article 424 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, which provides for up to ten years of imprisonment with possible confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions.
