Latvian Days of Art and Culture are held in Vitebsk

Дни искусства и культуры Латвии проходят в Витебске
The current Days of Art and Culture of Latvia in Vitebsk are filled with diverse exhibition projects.

This includes an introduction to the oldest art school in Riga, Rosenthal, and the heraldry of our neighbors, expositions of industrial landscapes by Andris Vitoliņš, and graphic works by contemporary artists. In this context, a prominent place is occupied by the exhibition of a young artist from Riga, Diana Janušone, which opened at the Art Museum.

Diana brought her textile and sculptural objects to the city of Marc Chagall. Her personal exhibition is titled "Strangers." As the artist herself explained, she is interested in exploring people within their social environment. The main theme of her work can be described as a response to the problems of modern society: the spread of terrorism, emigration and the associated deterioration of the demographic situation in Latvia, global instability, etc. To realize her ideas, Diana Janušone employs various techniques, both traditional and her own. Her screen printing on velvet is particularly interesting, used for a series of portraits that gave the exhibition its title – "Strangers." The central piece of the exhibition is the sculptural object "Incognito." It is composed of numerous small busts depicting various human emotions.

– Unfortunately, in Vitebsk, I was only able to show this work partially. For this installation, I created 400 faces, but not all of them fit in the exhibition hall. However, they convey the overall impression – changes in mood and states, the search for oneself, – explained the author.

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, who took part in the exhibition opening, noted that the Days of Latvian Culture have become a wonderful autumn celebration for the festival capital of Belarus, allowing us to get to know our good neighbors better.

Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Vitebsk Ugis Skuja emphasized that such a warm welcome, which Latvians receive in the city on the Daugava, is probably impossible elsewhere, and promised that the cultural ties between his country and the Vitebsk region will only strengthen in the future.
