Archivists are preparing documents on the history of the partisan movement in the Vitebsk region for publication
March 25, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Vitebsk archivists have begun developing a documentary publication tentatively titled "Partisan Vitebsk Region," which will be dedicated to the history of the partisan movement in the Vitebsk region during the Great Patriotic War. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region.
The documentary publication will be the second part of a project consisting of a series of document collections under the general title "Memory of Vitebsk Region," which is being implemented in cooperation with the National Archives of Belarus. Archivists are currently finalizing the concept for the second publication and selecting materials for it.
The first publication, "Liberated Vitebsk Region. 1943-1945," is dedicated to the history of restoring peaceful life in the region and contains documents reflecting events in the region after its liberation from the Nazi invaders from October 1943 to December 1945. The document collection, which is already completed, was prepared for the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Vitebsk region. The publication includes a total of 134 documents, including materials from the collections of the National Archives of Belarus and the State Archives of the Russian Federation. Most of the documents are little-known and will be published for the first time. The collection will be illustrated with photographs from the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs, and Sound Recordings and museum institutions of the region. Its presentation is planned to be held during the celebrations dedicated to this date.
The preservation and popularization of documentary heritage reflecting the history of the Great Patriotic War and the first post-war years are of particular relevance today, given that, unfortunately, fewer and fewer participants of those events are alive, specialists noted. -0-
