"House without Loneliness" will unite lonely elderly people in the Dubrovno district
May 12, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. "A House Without Loneliness" will unite lonely elderly people in Dubrovno, the chairperson of the Vitebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society, Galina Zhelanova, informed at a press conference, BELTA correspondent reports.
A mini-project under this name will be implemented in the Dubrovno district. Its main participants will be elderly people united by a common interest in singing. Pensioners, who do not want to sit at home alone and still have enough strength for an active life, have proposed to create their own vocal group that will perform concerts in remote villages of the district. Thus, they will not only spend their time with pleasure but also brighten the leisure time of other lonely elderly people. To bring this interesting idea to life, only a few things were missing – Belarusian national costumes for performances and transportation. The regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society will help with the concert outfits. The Dubrovno motor transport enterprise is ready to provide a bus for trips free of charge.
Three more mini-projects of the regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society, planned for implementation this year, are related to organizing handicraft clubs in the village of Novka, Vitebsk district, purchasing a mill for residents of several nearby villages in the Nemoytovsky village council of the Senno district, and acquiring blood pressure monitors and bicycles for former healthcare workers in Senno. The latter decided to unite into a group to help the nurse of the Senno district organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society with her wards, as well as to provide assistance to other bedridden disabled people.
As Galina Zhelanova emphasized, all these projects were initiated by the elderly people themselves, and therefore their implementation will not be an empty formality but will bring a tangible effect to each of the participants, helping the elderly avoid loneliness and feel the joy of life.
The Consortium of the Swiss, Austrian, and German Red Cross Societies allocates 400 euros for each project. In total, the Vitebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society has been implementing six mini-projects to support the elderly since 2007. -0-
