Craft houses in the Vitebsk region are opening their own showrooms

Shop-salons have started operating at craft houses in the Vitebsk region, the head of the culture department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Pashinsky, told a BELTA correspondent. In accordance with the decision of the regional executive committee, 19 salons have been created and are operating in district centers. They feature products by folk craftsmen and artisans, souvenirs with local flavor, including both original works by recognized masters of decorative and applied arts, and works by their students. According to Nikolai Pashinsky, the opening of the salons will help fill the shortage of souvenir products, develop folk crafts, preserve national traditions in decorative and applied arts, and also provide an additional source of income for craftsmen and craft houses. At the same time, folk art products should be more widely represented in the retail network, Nikolai Pashinsky believes. Currently, craft houses are establishing business contacts with owners of roadside service facilities and consumer cooperation enterprises for the sale of their products. There are 26 craft houses operating in the Vitebsk region. They bring together about 2.5 thousand folk craftsmen who preserve traditional crafts for the Pozerie region: weaving, straw weaving, pottery, embroidery, wood carving, and much more. -0-
