Rains have halted the grain harvest in the Vitebsk region

August 15, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Rains have suspended grain harvesting in the Vitebsk region, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. Due to adverse weather conditions on August 14, only 2 thousand hectares were harvested in the region, and 6.3 thousand tons of grain were threshed. Rain practically paralyzed the work of machine operators in Gluboksky, Miorsky, Postavsky, Sharkovshchinsky, Ushachsky, and Braslavsky districts. Agricultural workers in other regions of the area were catching every favorable moment. As a result, as of August 15, 62.4% of grain and leguminous crops, or 304.7 thousand hectares, have been harvested in the Vitebsk region. Grain yield with an average yield of 32 centners per hectare amounted to 976.4 thousand tons. According to forecasts from Vitebskoblgidromet, the second half of the current week in the Vitebsk region will be characterized by cloudy weather with clear spells. Short-term rains, with thunderstorms in places, will occur over most of the region. Daytime air temperature will be 17-22 degrees Celsius, and at night it will drop to 10-15 degrees. Forecasters expect a change in weather patterns next week. -0-
