September 14, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Two family-type homes for orphans will open in November in the Lepel district, the education department of the Vitebsk regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
The construction of facilities designed to accommodate up to 10 children is being carried out as part of the presidential program "Children of Belarus" - its subprogram "Orphans". Over Br750 million from the regional and republican budgets have been allocated for their construction. In total, since 2006, 12 homes for families raising orphans have been built in the Vitebsk region - in the Verkhnedvinsk, Miory, Glubokoe, Orsha districts, and in Orsha, 88 children have found a family.
In the next five-year period, the construction of family-type orphanages will continue as part of the new program "Children of Belarus". One such facility is planned to be built in the Shumilino, Chashniki, Braslav, Ushachi, Tolochin, Beshenkovichi, Sharkovshchina, Rossony, Postavy, and Gorodok districts.
Active work on placing children in foster families allows for the systematic optimization of the network of boarding institutions in the region, specialists noted. Thus, this year, taking into account the closure of the Dubrovno and Ezerishche orphanages, their number has decreased to 14 facilities.
In total, according to the data for the first half of the year, in the Vitebsk region, over 2.5 thousand orphans (more than 50%) are being raised in foster families, including 1426 in guardianship families and 1097 in adoptive families. 48 children were adopted during this period. As of September 1, over 900 children remain in 14 boarding institutions in the region. -0-
