Two pilot agro-towns are to appear in the Pskov region in 2009

May 15, Vitebsk region / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Two pilot agro-towns based on the Belarusian experience should be established in the Pskov region this year. The Governor of the Pskov region, Andrey Turchak, announced this goal after visiting the agro-town of Novka in the Vitebsk region and familiarizing himself with the work of the agricultural joint-stock company "Rudakovo", a BELTA correspondent reports. "The program for the revival and development of rural areas implemented in Belarus deserves close attention. The Pskov region intends to adopt the experience of creating agro-towns," Andrey Turchak said. In his opinion, the concentration of the production and social spheres in one place is not only economically justified but also contributes to solving the demographic problem. To implement the pilot projects, the leadership of the Pskov region intends to involve specialists from the Vitebsk region. First and foremost, the Pskov residents are interested in the technology of creating agro-towns. In addition to the experience of developing agricultural production, the delegation from the neighboring Russian region was also interested in the work of utility services. Vitebsk and Pskov regions are in the process of signing a cooperation agreement. The first step towards developing economic contacts in the context of the global crisis, according to the Pskov governor, will be the creation of trading houses. Trade exchange through trading houses will allow eliminating intermediaries and building direct relationships, he emphasized. "Contacts with the Republic of Belarus and the Vitebsk region are fundamental for the leadership of the Pskov region. We are destined for success," Andrey Turchak stated. The delegation from the Pskov region is on a one-day visit to the Vitebsk region. -0-
