Two districts of the Vitebsk region have overcome the 100,000 mark in grain harvesting
The Orsha district was the first to overcome this significant milestone this morning, traditionally noting the highest grain yield in the northern region – 40.3 centners per hectare. Just a few hours later, agricultural workers in the Vitebsk district repeated its result. This district is strongly competing for the leading position in the regional harvesting campaign this year. Its machine operators are harvesting an average of 39.8 centners of grain per circle and are outpacing their main rivals in harvesting speed, having already cleared almost 87% of the sown areas.
As of the morning of August 22, the yield of grain and leguminous crops in the region exceeds last year's by 5.6 centners per hectare. The Vitebsk district is leading the harvest. Less than 30% of the areas remain to be harvested in the Verkhnedvinsk, Rossony, Polotsk, Senno, Beshenkovichi, Glubokoye, Postavy, Tolochin, Orsha, and Dubrovno districts. The total grain harvest amounted to 798.2 thousand tons with an average yield of 31.5 centners per hectare.
Along with the grain harvest, other types of agricultural work are actively continuing in the region. For the 2023 harvest, 39.1 thousand hectares of winter rapeseed have been sown (62.5% of the planned area). Flax has been pulled from 11.6 thousand hectares (97.3%), and 3.8 thousand tons of flax shive with an average grade of 1.01 have been prepared. Fodder is being prepared from the second cutting. 90.2 thousand hectares have been mown (90.2%), and 14.56 centners of fodder units per conventional head of cattle have been prepared (+0.55 centners compared to last year's figure).
