Two-thirds of the members of the Vitebsk Regional Election Commission for the President are nominees of parties and public associations
September 29, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Two-thirds of the members of the Vitebsk Regional Territorial Commission for the Election of the President of the Republic of Belarus are nominees from political parties and public associations. The regional territorial commission was formed today in Vitebsk at a joint meeting of the presidium of the regional council of deputies and the regional executive committee. Representatives of political parties, public associations, labor collectives, and citizens who nominated their representatives to the commission were also present at the meeting, according to a BELTA correspondent.
29 citizens applied for membership in the commission, of whom 6 represented political parties, 9 represented public associations, and 15 people were nominated by citizens through signature collection (one applicant was nominated in two ways - by a party and by citizens). For greater representation, the members of the presidium and the regional executive committee decided to form the commission with a maximum of 13 members. The regional territorial commission includes 4 (31%) representatives from political parties: the Communist Party of Belarus, the Belarusian Left Party "A Just World", the Republican Party of Labor and Social Justice, and the Liberal Democratic Party; 5 (38%) members of public associations; 4 representatives of citizens. One member of the commission is a civil servant, which does not contradict the legislation.
As noted in a conversation with a BELTA correspondent, Iosif Bakevich, head of the organizational and personnel work department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the commission includes competent people with a responsible civic position. Four members of the commission have previously worked in election commissions, thus ensuring continuity.
Today, 28 territorial commissions will be formed in the Vitebsk region. 498 people have been nominated for their composition. When creating commissions with a maximum number of members (13 people), the competition will be 1.4 applicants per seat. Nominees from political parties and public associations make up 48%, 37% of applicants are nominated by citizens through signature collection, and 15% by labor collectives. 7 parties delegated 35 of their members to the 28 commissions, of which 16 are members of the Communist Party of Belarus.
The presidential election of the Republic of Belarus is scheduled for December 19, 2010. This decision was made on September 14 at an extraordinary session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. -0-
