Two Belarusians detained in Smolensk on suspicion of attacking a taxi driver in Orsha

Two Belarusian citizens were detained today in Smolensk on suspicion of attacking a taxi driver in Orsha, reported Andrei Semenikhin, head of the information and public relations department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, to a BELTA correspondent.

Today, around five in the morning, a man working as a taxi driver contacted the Orsha District Department of Internal Affairs and reported that at around one in the morning on December 31, two men got into his car and asked him to drive them out of town. Then, using force, they took his money and property, threw the driver out of the car, and drove off in the direction of the Russian Federation.

Immediately after the report of the incident, Orsha police officers contacted their colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate for the Smolensk Region of the Russian Federation and provided a description of the car and the suspects. A few hours later, police officers in Smolensk found the car and detained two citizens of Belarus, born in 1972 and 1991. The detainees are currently in Smolensk. The Investigative Committee of Belarus will provide a legal assessment of their actions.
