March 30, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. In 2010, environmentalists of the Vitebsk region imposed fines totaling Br35.8 million on legal entities in the region for burying secondary material resources (SMR) at waste storage and disposal sites. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Maria Oleneva, chief specialist of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
During state control, 164 inspections of solid municipal waste, 1.2 thousand checks of mini-landfills, and over 1 thousand checks of container sites were carried out. Inspectors identified 158 cases of SMR burial, which formed the basis for drawing up 136 inspection reports and 159 protocols. In addition to imposing fines, environmentalists exercised their right to apply increased tax rates for the burial of secondary material resources to malicious violators of environmental legislation.
As Maria Oleneva explained, for the burial of 1 ton of non-hazardous production waste, a tax rate of Br10,342 is charged, which is included in the cost of production. In case of burial of waste containing secondary material resources, the rate exceeds Br6 million, which the violator is obliged to pay from their profit.
In accordance with the state program for the collection (procurement) and processing of secondary raw materials for 2009-2015, a system for the procurement and processing of secondary material resources operates in the Vitebsk region. According to the results of 2010, the region collected 16.872 thousand tons of waste paper, 2.705 thousand tons of glass, 1.9 thousand tons of textiles, 3.263 thousand tons of polymers, 12.3 thousand tons of construction waste, and 66.7 thousand tons of asphalt concrete waste. -0-
